Learning

Learning, Slowly

This page is a record of what I am learning from. Books, courses, practice, other writers.

I follow what interests me and stay with it as long it’s useful.

I learn slowly and with genuine interest, not for speed, not for status. When something matters to me, I want to understand it properly, and I give it the time that it takes.

This page is a record of what I am currently learning from: books, courses, videos, practice. It updates as I go.

Education

MBBS
Bachelor of Medicine & Bachelor of Surgery

Courses and Videos

Memoir and Personal Essay: Write About Yourself — Wesleyan University via Coursera. A four-course specialization taught by published memoirists and essayists, focused on writing personal narrative with craft and intention. Auditing at my own pace.

Content Writing, Creative Writing, Copywriting — Henry Harvin. Watched all the video modules across all three courses. The certificate wasn’t the goal.

Reading

I read widely and without apology: classics, thrillers, memoirs, essays. The through line is good writing and something that stays with me after I’ve finished.

Books I’ve loved

Pride and Prejudice · Sense and Sensibility · Little Women

You Could Make This Place Beautiful · Real Estate · Cost of Living · The Artist’s Way · Let’s Talk Money · Let’s Talk Mutual Funds · The Assertiveness Workbook · Set Boundaries, Find Peace · I Don’t · Spinster

The Silent Patient · Daisy Darker · In My Dreams I Hold a Knife · The Guest List · The Hunting Party · It Girl · The White Queen

And everything Agatha Christie ever wrote.

Essays

I read essays the way I read everything else: when something catches my attention, I follow it. Aeon and Longreads are where I end up most often.

Currently reading

Interpreter of Maladies — Jhumpa Lahiri (fiction)
All the Single Ladies — Rebecca Traister (non-fiction)
Recovering from Emotionally Immature Parents — Lindsay Gibson (non-fiction, audiobook)

I read across genres. Everything feeds the writing in some way.

Practice

Drawing — Working through How to Draw Everything for Kids. Almost done. Next up is How to Draw Almost Every Day. I started with a beginner book because it worked, not because I was being modest.

Bollywood Dance — Online classes twice a week. Ongoing.

Bollywood Singing — Online foundation course. The progression goes foundation, beginner, intermediate. Still early.

Depth over speed, always.
